The 1960's

The Fabulous Fifties were now consigned to the history books. We didn't know then that the decade would, some fifty years later, evoke so many fond memories.

But now it was the '60's, and stock car racing at "Victory Speedway" would undergo some dramatic changes. Management would change, and the cars went faster and faster.

Folks had begun to refer to the track simply as "Orange County," forgetting the name "Victory Speedway." Your humble webmaster regrets this. If anyone ever considers changing the name of the track again, call it...  Victory Speedway!!!

This program was graciously donated to the "Victory Speedway" website by Lenny Chidgey, former Sportsman driver, and all-round good guy. Thanks Lenny, and thanks to all who have been so generous.

A sign of things to come.

These clippings are from Joel Murns’ scrapbook. Thanks, Joel!

A new racing surface, a new drive-in section, new lighting, a new race director, and a new name. "Victory Speedway" had been re-named "Orange County Fair Speedway."

Since no one was using the name "Victory Speedway" anymore, I just borrowed it until the powers-that-be need it back. I will gladly return it if they let me keep my jacket, my hat, pennant, and this website.

The "Big Sprint Cars" took the place of the "Big Cars" that ran in the 40’s and early 50’s. Today, the URC is still going strong, and they put on great shows at the speedway. Also, there is the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series that visits OCFS once a year.
